What Nudity Means

Model Padma Laxmi, ex-wife of Salman Rushdie, says about posing nude:'I like me better naked. I don't mean that in a vain way. When you put clothes on, you immediately put a character on. Clothes are adjectives, they are indicators. When you don't have any clothes on, it's just you, raw, and you can't hide.'
Playboy  pin-up  Joanna Krupa's new Peta ad showing her wearing nothing but a crucifix has enraged critics who called the ad exploitative of Christian symbols. The model appears in the ad with angel wings behind her. Her private parts are covered - barely - by a large, well-placed metallic crucifix.
Rihanna has some sexy advice for women - the singer says all women should have nude pictures snapped."Every woman should have naked pictures taken. In five years my body might not look like this!",the Sun quoted US pop singer Rihanna as saying.
Nudity is the common thread in all the above quotes or observations.. We have become so used to adjectives that a bare noun hardly means anything to us. A bare body is the natural meaning of what we are, but our clothes add the layers of social status, luxury, and fashion hiding the true essence of our naked beings under the weight of  needless clutter.
